If you are a keen observer of tech news, you may no doubt have heard about the launch of Apple’s new iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and of course, iOS 15 to complement the new devices. Most will be hitting the market in a few short weeks.
Meanwhile, what has gone mostly under the radar is an iOS update — iOS 14.8.
Pushing out an update just before a major product announcement is not something that Apple does often, and this has left many Apple users confused whether this update is worth installing when iOS 15 is just around the corner.
In my opinion, this update is a must.
In other words, you should download iOS 14.8 immediately and install it regardless of whether you intend to install iOS 15 or not.
The interim release contains important patches. Specifically, it fixes a bug that allows a hacker to install spyware hidden in a maliciously crafted PDF that’s sent to a vulnerable device. The real kicker is, once that device receives an iMessage text with that PDF, the spyware installs without needing to click on the PDF to open it first.
